Meet a Friend of BAM: Candace

Welcome to Meet a Friend—a new series of brief Q&As with Friends of BAM members, the utterly unique individuals who help bring art to our stages. From different zip codes, boroughs, and backgrounds, our members gather around a commitment to adventurous performance—and we couldn’t be prouder to know them.

This month’s featured Friend: Candace, a new addition to the Clinton Hill neighborhood
Member since: Feb 2012

If you had to describe BAM to someone who had never heard of us, what would you say?
It's a place where you can experience something that will make you have feelings and ideas you've never had before.

What's your favorite kind of performance to see at BAM? Any favorite shows in particular?

I love opera and theater. My favorite shows of all time at BAM are The Nightingale and Other Short Fables and Julius Caesar.

If you had to live somewhere other than New York, where would it be?
Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.

What's the biggest risk you've ever taken?
When I moved to New York, I had just earned my masters in teaching. There was a teaching hiring freeze and I had never lived here before. When I found my first teaching job, I had about $50 left in my bank account.

Are you planning on subscribing to the Next Wave season? What shows are you most excited about?

I already have! I'm most excited about Moses(es), The Blue Dragon, A Rite, and War Sum Up.
